123I‐BMIPP single‐photon emission computed tomography for diagnosing chest pain in patients with nonobstructive coronary angiograms: Takotsubo or vasospasm?

The decreased 123I-BMIPP uptake, while having normal perfusion, in the correspondent coronary artery territory is caused by a delayed metabolic recovery after the recovery of perfusion. This phenomenon termed ischemic memory can clearly differentiate vasospastic angina from other chest pain syndromes.

Dopaminergic deficit in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis assessed with [I-123] IPT single photon emission computed tomography.

Dopamine transporter imaging was performed in 18 patients with sporadic amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and 11 age matched controls with [I-123] IPT (N-(3-iodopropen-2-yl)-2beta-carbomethoxy-3beta(4-chlorophen yl)-tropane), a new cocaine analogue that selectively binds to the dopamine transporter located on dopaminergic nerve terminals. Image analysis showed that striatal IPT binding was mo...

I-123 iomazenil single photon emission computed tomography for detecting loss of neuronal integrity in patients with traumatic brain injury

BACKGROUND Traumatic brain injury (TBI) causes brain dysfunction in many patients. Using C-11 flumazenil (FMZ) positron emission tomography (PET), we have detected and reported the loss of neuronal integrity, leading to brain dysfunction in TBI patients. Similarly to FMZ PET, I-123 iomazenil (IMZ) single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) is widely used to determine the distribution of...

Image Optimization in Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography by Hardware Modifications with Monte Carlo Simulation

Introduction: In Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography (SPECT), the projection data used for image reconstruction are distorted by several factors, including attenuation and scattering of gamma rays, collimator structure, data acquisition method, organ motion, and washout of radiopharmaceuticals. All these make reconstruction of a quantitative SPECT image very difficult. Simulation of a SP...
